European Commission – FP7: Future Internet PPP – Information Day, Brussels, 8 July - Published on 17 June 2010

In anticipation of the first call for the implementation of the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership, planned for opening on 30 July 2010, the Commission services organise in Brussels on Thursday 8 July 2010 an open Information Day.

The event might be particularly relevant to those who have not had the possibility to attend one of the many national Future Internet workshops or the Usage Area Workshop on 21/22 June 2010. Everyone, will have the opportunity to present ideas and share them with other prospective participants in the FI PPP call.
Please note that the day after, Friday 9 July, the Public Private Partnerships
Energy-efficient Buildings, Factories of the Future and Green Cars organise as well an information day in Brussels.

W3C Community Invited to Discuss Future Standards for Model-Based User Interfaces - Published on 29 March 2010

W3C announced today a Workshop on Future Standards for Model-Based User Interfaces, 13-14 May 2010 in Rome Italy. Participants will examine the challenges facing Web developers due to variations in device capabilities, modes of interaction and software standards, the need to support assistive technologies for accessibility, and the demand for richer user interfaces. Discussion will focus on reviewing research on model-based design of context- sensitive user interfaces in relation to these challenges, and the opportunities for new open standards in the area of Model-Based User Interfaces. W3C Membership is not required to participate; anyone who satisfies the participation requirements may attend as long as space permits. Statements of interest are due 2 April. ICT 2010: Call for proposals to exhibit cutting edge research and innovation projects - Published on 17 February 2010

The European Commission today published the Call for Proposals for exhibits at ICT2010 on 27-29 September 2010. The Commission is looking for ideas in the area of upstream ICT innovation as well as close-to-market projects. We invite any organisation involved in European research and development as well as deployment projects and associated support activities to submit an idea for an exhibit. The call is open to all sorts of actors in ICT research: universities, research institutes, non-profit organisations, public authorities and commercial companies including small and medium sized enterprises. Future Internet Assembly (FIA): Looking for success stories in Europe - Published on 05 February 2010

The next FIA meeting will take place in Valencia on 15, 16 April 2010. It is held in conjunction with the eventThe European Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability” (www.r2sconference.eu) where among others the Public Private Partnership (PPPs) on Future Internet will be formally launched. Contrary to previous FIA workshops this one will be open for all researchers involved in Future Internet.

The preliminary programme of Valencia is available on http://www.future-internet.eu/home/future-internet-assembly/valencia-april-2010.html . Please send your proposals for presentations during FIA Valencia before 26 February to infso-future-internet@ec.europa.eu. The format is free but the description should not exceed 1 A4 page. The next ARTEMIS-JU call for project proposals will open on 26 February 2010. This will be a two-stage approach with a deadline for the submission of Project Outlines and a deadline for the submission of Full Project Proposals. To help organisations prepare the project proposals, ARTEMIS Joint Undertaking is holding an Information Event for the Call 2010.

RISEPTIS Report - Published on 07 December 2009

With the support of an EC funded (ICT Research programme - Trust and Security) Coordination Action, Think-Trust, an Advisory Board RISEPTIS (Research and Innovation for Security, Privacy and Trustworthiness in the Information Society) has been established as an independent group of experts.

RISEPTIS is chaired by Prof. George Metakides (University of Patras) and has a distinguished membership from industry and academia spread over the various expertise fields relevant for the research area of trust and security in ICT. It has finished its report 'Trust in the Information Society" providing visionary guidance and recommendations on policy and research challenges in the field of Security and Trust in the Information Society.

Identity Management in Service Oriented Architecture: common workshop of MASTER, PrimeLife and TAS3 - Published on 13 November 2009

In the occasion of ServiceWave 2009 conference, MASTER together with PrimeLife and TAS3 organise common workshop on Identity Management in Service Oriented Architecture.
The workshop focuses on the intersection and complementary work related to the identity management in dynamic and reconfigurable service architectures and infrastructures.  Presented by the projects MASTER, PrimeLife and TAS3.  These projects are complementary and given their state of the art, they are likely to provide the reusable results as well as few key elements of a strategy towards embedding Security and Trust in service infrastructures.
The workshop takes place on November 23rd, 2009, at 14:30.

Invitation to the Digital World Forum workshop - Published on 03 July 2009

The Digital World Forum workshop on Applying Low Cost Information Access Devices in Fostering Social and Economic Development will be held on Tuesday 8 September 2009, 09:00hrs to 17:00hrs in Brussels, Belgium. Registration and other details are available at:
 
 
The workshop is targeting interested members of various European Technology Platforms, device designers, manufacturers, researchers, innovators, suppliers, consumers, and special interest groups with an interest in low cost information access devices. The workshop is expected to deliver a European Perspective on possible application of such devices in fostering social and economic development, thereby closing the digital divide. A programme for the one day event is attached.
 
In the meantime, the Digital World Forum organizers of the workshop are engaging various stakeholders through various means, among them:
 
     Blogs or opinion articles such as the ones at
 
     The ensuing discussion forum at
     Targeted questionnaires to stratified stakeholder populations
     Knowledge sharing at various formal and informal engagements

SCUBE-ICT: 2 days workshops in Belarus and Ukraine - June 2009 - Published on 28 May 2009

This events (2 days workshops) is organised by SCUBE-ICT and it will take place in Minsk (BY) on 25-26 June 2009 and Lviv (UA) on 2-3 July 2009. During the first day of these workshops, the ICT research areas under Call 5 will be discussed and practical insights on research proposal elaboration will be provided, constituting valuable information, especially for researchers new to EU funded research activities. The workshops will emphasise the emerging collaboration opportunities that exist between ICT players from the respective countries and their EU counterparts, by highlighting case studies, namely examples of existing research projects involving Belarusian and/or Ukrainian partners. EchoGRID has delivered a final roadmap - Published on 11 March 2009

 

EchoGRID Project has delivered a final roadmap that identifies common areas of interest and opportunities for collaboration on Grid technologies between Europe and China. This roadmap provides a shared European and Chinese vision of future GRID research perspectives for both research and industrial communities for the next 3, 5 and 10 years. The common point of all the national initiatives taken by many European States towards the future of the Internet is that "they all capitalise on future developments of the Internet. It is now our responsibility to make sure that a common vision and approach emerges from these multiple initiatives. Governments need to be able to cooperate with each other in Europe and at the global level to fulfil these responsibilities" argued Viviane Reding, Member of the European Commission responsible for Information Society and Media, in her speech entitled “Internet of the future: Europe must be a key player” at the “Future of the Internet initiative of the Lisbon Council” (Brussels, 2 February 2009). In anticipation of the first call for the implementation of the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership, planned for opening on 30 July 2010, the Commission services organise in Brussels on Thursday 8 July 2010 an open Information Day.

The event might be particularly relevant to those who have not had the possibility to attend one of the many national Future Internet workshops or the Usage Area Workshop on 21/22 June 2010. Everyone, will have the opportunity to present ideas and share them with other prospective participants in the FI PPP call.

W3C Community Invited to Discuss Future Standards for Model-Based User Interfaces - Published on 29 March 2010

W3C announced today a Workshop on Future Standards for Model-Based User Interfaces, 13-14 May 2010 in Rome Italy. Participants will examine the challenges facing Web developers due to variations in device capabilities, modes of interaction and software standards, the need to support assistive technologies for accessibility, and the demand for richer user interfaces. Discussion will focus on reviewing research on model-based design of context- sensitive user interfaces in relation to these challenges, and the opportunities for new open standards in the area of Model-Based User Interfaces. W3C Membership is not required to participate; anyone who satisfies the participation requirements may attend as long as space permits. Statements of interest are due 2 April. Future Internet Assembly (FIA): Looking for success stories in Europe - Published on 05 February 2010

The next FIA meeting will take place in Valencia on 15, 16 April 2010. It is held in conjunction with the eventThe European Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability” (www.r2sconference.eu) where among others the Public Private Partnership (PPPs) on Future Internet will be formally launched. Contrary to previous FIA workshops this one will be open for all researchers involved in Future Internet.

The Digital World Forum workshop on Applying Low Cost Information Access Devices in Fostering Social and Economic Development will be held on Tuesday 8 September 2009, 09:00hrs to 17:00hrs in Brussels, Belgium. Registration and other details are available at:
 
 
The workshop is targeting interested members of various European Technology Platforms, device designers, manufacturers, researchers, innovators, suppliers, consumers, and special interest groups with an interest in low cost information access devices. The workshop is expected to deliver a European Perspective on possible application of such devices in fostering social and economic development, thereby closing the digital divide. A programme for the one day event is attached.
 
In the meantime, the Digital World Forum organizers of the workshop are engaging various stakeholders through various means, among them:

This events (2 days workshops) is organised by SCUBE-ICT and it will take place in Minsk (BY) on 25-26 June 2009 and Lviv (UA) on 2-3 July 2009. During the first day of these workshops, the ICT research areas under Call 5 will be discussed and practical insights on research proposal elaboration will be provided, constituting valuable information, especially for researchers new to EU funded research activities. The workshops will emphasise the emerging collaboration opportunities that exist between ICT players from the respective countries and their EU counterparts, by highlighting case studies, namely examples of existing research projects involving Belarusian and/or Ukrainian partners. EchoGRID has delivered a final roadmap - Published on 11 March 2009

 

EchoGRID Project has delivered a final roadmap that identifies common areas of interest and opportunities for collaboration on Grid technologies between Europe and China. This roadmap provides a shared European and Chinese vision of future GRID research perspectives for both research and industrial communities for the next 3, 5 and 10 years. "Internet of the future: Europe must be a key player" Viviane Reding, Member of the European Commiss - Published on 03 March 2009

The common point of all the national initiatives taken by many European States towards the future of the Internet is that "they all capitalise on future developments of the Internet. It is now our responsibility to make sure that a common vision and approach emerges from these multiple initiatives. Governments need to be able to cooperate with each other in Europe and at the global level to fulfil these responsibilities" argued Viviane Reding, Member of the European Commission responsible for Information Society and Media, in her speech entitled “Internet of the future: Europe must be a key player” at the “Future of the Internet initiative of the Lisbon Council” (Brussels, 2 February 2009). All NESSI Strategic Projects have been launched during the first semester of 2008. This first family of projects - EzWeb, Master, NEXOF-RA, Reservoir, SLA@SOI and SOA4ALL will all contribute to the elaboration of NEXOF, the NESSI Open Service Framework. The management of the contribution process and the definition of NEXOF's Reference Architecture are managed by NEXOF-RA.

Event - 14/9/2008 - Join the ISERD event on Services

Event - 25 -> 31/8/2008  – TSD NESSI Working Group representatives at DEPEND 2008

In August 2008, several NESSI TSD WG members will be directly involved in the First International Workshop on Dependability and Security in Complex and Critical Information Systems, DEPEND 2008, to be held on August 25-31, in Cap Esterel, France. Among other topics TSD WG members will present the current trends in coping with dependability in service oriented architectures and infrastructures.

News - 27/06/2008 - NESSI releases its position paper on a "European Software Strategy"

On the 16th of June, NESSI sent to Commissioner Viviene Reding its latest position paper on a strategy for software in Europe. The paper issues six recommendations that are fully detailed in the report. Please click here to download the report.

Event - 9 & 10/6/2008 – EchoGrid industrial workshop, Athens, Greece

EchoGrid is organising its third Workshop. The Industry Track is inviting industry experts to participate to a discussion on Grid roadmap and general concerns on Grid related to Industry.

EchoGRID consortium has drafted a 3, 5 and 10 year roadmap on various Grid topics [New Programming Paradigms, GRID Architectures - SoA, GRID Management, Virtual Organisation, Component model, Workflow / Business Process]. The roadmap draft is available and open for comments at echogrid.ercim.org

ServiceWave 2008 launches its call for papers on Friday 30th May 2008. Hosted by UPM in Madrid, ServiceWave 2008 is organised by NESSI in cooperation with the ETPs eMobility, EPoSS, ISI and NEM, with Networks of Excellence CoreGrid and S-Cube, with the Support Actions Eiffel, 4NEM and NESSI 2010 as well as ICSOC. News - 29/05/2008 - All NESSI Strategic Projects are launched!

All NESSI Strategic Projects have been launched during the first semester of 2008. This first family of projects - EzWeb, Master, NEXOF-RA, Reservoir, SLA@SOI and SOA4ALL will all contribute to the elaboration of NEXOF, the NESSI Open Service Framework. The management of the contribution process and the definition of NEXOF's Reference Architecture are managed by NEXOF-RA.

NESSI is organising a workshop during the upcoming IMCSIT conference to reinforce links with the Polish Technology Platform on Software and Services. Workshop presentations will provide an update on NESSI, with a specific focus on experiences of ongoing national technology platforms and on the link of NESSI with national initiatives and platforms. Event - 4/4/2008 - Artemisia and Eniac to organise JTI Information Days

During 2007, the ETPs Artemis and Eniac evolved towards a JTI, Joint Technology Initiatives. On the 4th of April, they provided information about the process and the future evolution in an open day. NESSI is currently actively analysing the process of evolution towards a JTI in collaboration with e-Mobility, ePoSS, ISI and NEM.
