NESSI Working Group Model

Overview of NESSI working groups

Introduction

NESSI Working Groups (NWGs) provide a channel through which NESSI members can  participate in NESSI and provide input to its core activities.  NWGs are open to all members, but you must be a member or partner to participate.

Membership and registration information is available here.

If you wish to take part of the NESSI Working Groups,  do not hesitate to make direct contact with the leaders of the working groups that interest you, stating that you have been accepted as a member. Contact details can be found here.

If you wish to actively contribute to NESSI and propose new WG topics relevant to the development of the NESSI SRA, you can fin all needed information in the NESSI WG Governance.

NESSI Working Group Mission and Objectives

Existing NWGs have been divided in three categories:

1.      Horizontal NWGs, which are primarily intended to provide input on domains within the scope of the NESSI Strategic Research Agenda (SRA).

      More specifically, these NWGs:

- promote the creation of NESSI communities interested in a given research topic.

- create input which adds breadth and depth to the NESSI SRA.

- link NESSI with the relevant research initiatives through common members.

- disseminate NESSI concepts within their research communities.

- participate in related activities, such as the creation of standards, in coordination with the relevant NESSI Committees.

2.      Vertical NWGs, which are primarily intended to link business application domains with NESSI research areas.

      More specifically, these NWGs:

- contribute requirements to NESSI.

- promote and support the use of NESSI within the application domain.

- link NESSI with relevant application stakeholder groups and other research initiatives through common members.

- participate in other activities in coordination with relevant NESSI Committees.

3.      Adoption NWGs, which reinforce participation and adoption in the ICT community by involving SME and Open Source Software communities.

      More specifically  these NWGs :

- foster active participation by the ICT SMEs and Open Source Software communities to NESSI.

- ensure that the Open Source Software or SME related issues that could influence the implementation of NESSI strategies are conveyed to all NESSI entities.

In the future, NESSI is looking to create NWGs that will aid in the development of synergies with other       ICT industry domains such as telecommunication networks, mobility, multimedia and content, to find common ground for innovation.
